On this day in the United States we celebrate our freedom - the freedom that has been (and still is) hard fought by brave men and women throughout our history.
What is unusual to me when considering freedom is the different ways that people view freedom - for many (including me at one point) freedom means that "nobody can tell me what to do - I can do whatever I want". Many people may miss the bigger understanding of freedom - the idea that God has set us free not so that we can do whatever we want, but so that we can live our lives free from the mistakes and pain that ultimately limit us so much.
If we fail to see that freedom that God purchased for us, we will not be free from the sin that keeps us chained up, that keeps us imprisoned behind steel wire and high fences.
So, since we're out from under the old tyranny, does that mean we can live any old way we want? Since we're free in the freedom of God, can we do anything that comes to mind? Hardly. You know well enough from your own experience that there are some acts of so-called freedom that destroy freedom. Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it's your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. All your lives you've let sin tell you what to do. But thank God you've started listening to a new master, one whose commands set you free to live openly in his freedom!Romans 6:15-18
I hope that I can become a better photographer with the examples here on Am3 and by getting your feedback on my images.
Please give me your constructive comments - I do appreciate your input!
I may not be able to reply to each of your comments - but they mean a lot to me and I thank you!
I do like your shot. Especially the reflection of light off of the razor wire!

Chris, this is really well-done. Interestingly, I happened to preach from this very passage from Romans in The MESSAGE last Sunday.

Chris, what a great image and a stunning contrast when looking at your title. It's true that freedom in the ways it is often viewed can be one of the most oppressive things around. We do well to be careful of how we view freedom, and how we portray it to others.

A very good reminder and definition of freedom to go with an excellent photo. Thank you and hope your Fourth of July is memorable.

You said it, Chris, Christ purchased our freedom and if we don't exercise and celebrate it, we are the losers!
