This tulip was growing in my garden, but I hadn't even noticed it until just the other day.

I am on vacation for a few days and will not be able to comment on your pictures - thanks for stopping by and I will try to catch up when I get back. I hope that I can become a better photographer with the examples here on Am3 and by getting your feedback on my images.
I may not be able to reply to each of your comments - but they mean a lot to me and I thank you!

Love the selective focus here Chris!

@Craig: Thanks, I added a bit of that in post processing....
Nice shot, incredible color!

@Betty: Thank you Betty..
What a well-lit, vivid red. Nice work. But <grins> I must ask, have you trained all your tulips to grow up so straight, at 90 degree angles from the ground?

@Viewfinder: If a tulip grows in my yard, it better be straight!! No crooked tulips allowed!!
Actually, this photo did not need any straightening (and I don't think I would straighten anyway). I usually only straighten buildings or horizons - and once I discovered the straighten tool in PaintShop Pro I discovered how easy it was to do (just draw a line on the crooked line and the program straightens the photo).
Thanks for your comment (and ribbing - I need a good dose of that every once in a while!!)
I was surprised when I saw f/8...I was sure it would be f/3 or lower! Did you change the DOF in PP? Lovely shot and incredible color. I can never quite get my reds as pure as this!
(Oh, and BTW, I just discovered the straightening tool in Paintshop Pro! How simple is that? I am in love!)

@Tracey: Thanks Tracey - the reds are pretty much what the camera saw - didn't play with the color at all. The main post processing I did was to add a "soft focus" in Picasa - was able to keep the center of the flower in sharp focus but blurred the rest - normally I wouldn't do that much post processing but I liked it in this case with all the red color there.
I really like the tight DOF, and the imensity of red that makes the image boldly stand out. Really nice one Chris.

@Richard_Irwin: Thank you Richard....
Nice composition and wonderful reds. I like how the image is divided between red at the top and green towards the bottom. Nicely seen.

Good selective focus. It is amazing how we, me too, can fail to see the beauty around us.
