scripturePosted by Chris (South Jersey, United States) on 22 January 2008 in Art & Design and Portfolio. In Christianity we have a lot of fancy words that we like to use - I know that sometimes that may be a turn off to people that don't know the word and so they don't feel they are part of the "club". One of those words is scripture, which refers to the text that we regard as holy - meaning the bible. The bible is an important text for me in that it outlines the history of God's love for His people - first for the Israelites and then for everyone. Some of it is hard to read, some of it confusing, some of it challenging, and it has been (and still is) misused by people who want to pull text out of it to prove their point (everything from discrimination to getting rich). Some people worship the bible, some make a living off of telling you what is inside - but the best way to know what is in there is to read it yourself. You can pick an easy to read translation (The Message is a great modern day translation) or challenge yourself and read it in the King James (or go for the original Greek!). Read a bit and be open to what the Spirit of God speaks into you while you read. This is another picture of my family bible (circa 1890) that has been handed down to me. It isn't in great shape but has a lot of intricate detail and is very pretty to look at. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us. I hope that I can become a better photographer with the examples here on Am3 and by getting your feedback on my images. I may not be able to reply to each of your comments - but they mean a lot to me and I thank you! Please visit my wife's blog - The Noble Wife
