Since it is getting colder now (we got spoiled with a warm winter so far) I thought I would dig out some warm weather pictures for posting. This one is from our annual summer trip to Smith Beach, Virginia (on the Eastern Shore of Virginia - Chesapeake Bay).
I don't know where this driftwood came from - it just ended up here. I know that I cannot go through life the way this tree ended up - tossed around by the waves and not knowing where it will end up. Although there is uncertainty in life I know I have to be focused on God so that I am standing on firm ground.
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." Matthew 7:25-27
I am on vacation for a few days and will not be able to comment on your pictures - thanks for stopping by and I will try to catch up when I get back. I hope that I can become a better photographer with the examples here on Am3 and by getting your feedback on my images.
I may not be able to reply to each of your comments - but they mean a lot to me and I thank you!

@Hinah: Thank you for the feedback - I try to think for a while about what the picture means to me, and the words just come.....
Chis, this is wonderful. The piece of driftwood is was a great find and your analogy to life profound. Refrain: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. Amen

@Judy: Thank you Judy - this piece of wood was always moving - when I went back the next day to take the picture again with different lighting the angle was all wrong. A one time find!
Beautiful colours, tones and textures, a wonderfully warming capture Chris.

Visually -- so pleasing! I love the textures of driftwood, sand, water, and sky. DOF is excellent -- main focus on driftwood and sand; surroundings melting into soft focus - fuzziness behind them. Thought-provoking! Your multi-layered interpretation and inclusion of Matthew 7 verses really makes this a picture with a message!
Great work Chris!

@Viewfinder: Thanks for the feedback - I have been happy with this photo and need to turn it into paper so I can hang it in my office. I did play around with the DOF a bit - I have another version with everything in focus but it doesn't work as well.
Very nice angle and creative shot!
